001. This is an independent & highly selective roleplay blog for Jacaerys Velaryon / Targaryen from Fire & Blood. This is a book & headcanon based blog, with very small influences from House of the Dragon. There will be book spoilers present and they will not be tagged. As the show airs, show spoilers will be tagged for 3 days after the episode airs. Established as a solo blog (originally on DenyDefeat) on 6/26/24. 002. I am mutuals only. Please do not send memes if I have not followed you back, including your sideblog. I will block at that point. If you wish to break mutuals, please either unfollow me (I have mutual checker and will unfollow in return), tell me, or hardblock me. If I find out I was softblocked, I will hardblock. In that same vein, once I am hardblocked by you, I will do the same in reverse, to respect that you no longer want me in your space. I do not check blogs after I have been blocked by them/I have blocked them, and I hope for the same respect in return please.
I will unfollow blogs after 6+ weeks of inactivity (I do not check often), but if you return, please just let me know and I will happily refollow.
I check my new followers often and if I have not followed back within a week, I likely will not. I will not follow back non-rp blogs or blogs that do not cut their posts. 003. This is a multi-ship blog, but I will not automatically ship with anyone. I prefer not to ship with more than 2-3 versions of the same muse, so likely will not (there are a few exceptions). All ships are in their own alternate universe.
Incest is a prevalent part of this universe and will not be ignored. Jace is canonically engaged to his cousin Baela, and (show) was considered a match for his Aunt Helaena. These two ships will be explored, as will other ships, incestuous or not, as Targaryens did explore incest. None of this is condoned in real life, and I do not write explicit content or NSFW on tumblr in the first place. All of it is plotted prior, either in DMs or discord, and has a much different/deeper meaning to the over-arching story. Every ship I write serves a purpose to the story that I am writing.
If you ever need anything tagged, please let me know. As I do not write explicit content, I do not have a lot of tags for blacklisting, but am willing to tag things when asked.
004. All memes are open at all times, but I will be slow to reply to them. I prefer plotting to memes/random starters (though am open to both). I am always, always open for plotting and interested in interesting plots. I have several au verses and love developing both those and new ones with other people.
If you are a multi-muse and do not specify a muse when sending a meme, I will simply delete it.
I will not write NSFW on tumblr but am happy to do so on discord in a server with those I am close with. 005. I love having mains, affiliates, and exclusives. If you ever wish to be mains/affiliates/exclusives after we have begun writing together, please let me know. This can apply to ship relationships as well (IE, you only ship with my Jace, but write with others, and I do the same with your muse). If I am already writing with another version of your muse, I am unlikely to make us exclusive. If you ever wish to break mains/exclusives, please just tell me. I am a big fan of open communication. I will rarely ask for exclusives myself, but I do enjoy having them as a way to deeply develop dynamics.
I will not accept anymore Dance Era exclusives other than the ones listed on my CARRD/Pinned at this time. 006. This is a DRAMA FREE ZONE. None of us are innocent in not participating in some form of internet drama over the course of our time here, but I try my best to keep it off of my blogs. I will post real life updates that may impact my activity but that's about it. Unless someone is displaying incredibly problematic behavior (stalking, harassment, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, racism, etc.), please do not approach me about it. I do not want to be involved unless the person is actually a problem, and even then, I will reserve the right to make my decision privately. I will read callouts but I will not repost them unless the behavior is as such above.
Any constant untagged negativity or vague-blogging will result in an unexplained (unless we are genuinely close) hardblock. I do want to cultivate friendships, but I do also need to protect my space as well. 007. If you make reference to something I have cleared up in my character notes or here on my rules (IE age, bastardy, etc.) in threads or asks, I will likely DM you about adjusting it, or simply adjust it in my own reply. If it's in a crack post, I will probably ignore it. I tend to pull up people's carrds/rules/about when replying to them in any context, as a way to ensure I keep their characterization's in tact, and I would appreciate a similar respect. While mistakes happen, if it happens frequently, I might cease interactions. I put a lot of work in ensuring things were made pretty clear here about how my portrayal is more book/headcanon based than show based, and being constantly forced into show based interactions is starting to kill my vibe.
008. I will prioritize replies with my mains and my friends, but I am always open to new interactions. I tend to reply to whatever I get the most muse for first, so there is no real order to the chaos. I have ADHD and it's unmedicated so we're really just raw dogging all of life at this point. I do also have a full time 50+ hour a week job, several other hobbies, and a social life. If waiting for a reply is going to be a problem, please do not follow me. My exclusives are listed on my pinned and on my carrd and I will not follow solo blogs for these muses, or interact with them on multis. I am very slow, and I understand others being slow to reply as well - there is no deadline and nothing expires. However, if you constantly drop threads with me, before they get going, then I am likely to stop writing with you in general. 009. My discord is available to mutuals but I would prefer chatting in DMs here first. I am slow at responding in both places. I am open to creating RP writing servers with people, with or without tupperbox. 010. I love OCs of all sorts, however I will no longer be interacting with OC siblings of Jacaerys that are set as older than him. This invalidates him as Rhaenyra's heir, and given his birth was within a year of her marriage, technically erases him from the story entirely so logically, there is no way to interact with those OCs. Younger siblings/other OCs, with or without relation, I will gladly write with. 011. Character / Team slander is not welcomed here. Criticisms of characters or TB/TG are fine, but bashing characters needlessly on the dash is exhausting to read, tagged or not, and I will unfollow/block for it. If you don't like Jacaerys and want to make that publicly known, do not follow me. You are allowed your opinion, of course, but I am also allowed to have a place where this is a fun hobby, and there are often times when these things get out of hand and just exhausting. 012. I work INCREDIBLY HARD to make sure my AUs and crossovers are unique and dynamic, and whether that is always the case or not, if I find out you are stealing my ideas and writing them with other people, especially if you do not ask or talk to me about it, I will block you. It's tacky behavior for 2025 - this is a creative hobby, and stealing ideas is completely unoriginal. 013. Icons, promos, graphics, etc. on this blog were either made by me, for me, or found in a free-for-use way. Various Graphics credits from: calisverse, animuscomms

Jacaerys Velaryon was born towards the end of the year to Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon. He was nicknamed "Jace" by his family and friends at a young age, and raised to be the heir to the Iron Throne after his mother and grandfather. At 4 years old, he was betrothed to his younger cousin, Baela Targaryen (2). His father Laenor died in 120 AC. While at the funeral, his uncle Aemond claimed Vhagar, and a fight ensued between Jace, his two brothers, and Aemond, resulting in the loss of one of Aemond's eyes, and a rivalry, enmity, and ire that would last until all were dead. A few months after his father's death, his mother remarried Daemon Targaryen, and shortly after his young brothers Aegon III and Viserys II were born. Rumors had already been swirling at that point about the true patronage of Jace, Lucerys, and Joffrey, and were only heightened by the births of their youngest brothers, who looked entirely Targaryen, while the other three boys were rumored to be the bastard sons of a by then-deceased Knight who was the Commander of the City Watch, Harwin Strong.
These rumors would be the backbone of the Dance of the Dragons that would follow Jace's grandfather's death, and the battle for the throne between his mother and his uncle Aegon II. Jace nor none of his brothers ever gave the rumors any basis of fact and were Velaryon through and through, and even the allusion to the rumor made him irritable. Jace was 18 at the start of the war. His dragon, Vermax, was thriving, and he volunteered, alongside his brother Lucerys, to be envoys to other Houses to secure their loyalty to Rhaenrya, over Aegon the Usurper. Lucerys was killed by their uncle Aemond, in retribution for his eye lost so many years before, and was the catalyst for the war. Jace went to the Vale, and secured the support of them in exchange for dragon protection, the support of the Three Sisters, and White Harbor as well. He then went to Winterfell, where he befriended Cregan Stark, even swearing an oath of brotherhood to him. While in Winterfell, he met and fell in love with Sara Snow, Cregan's half sister. They married in secret, in the godswood of Winterfell, and promised his firstborn daughter betrothed to Cregan's heir - the Pact of Ice and Fire. More to come.
.
Unless a plotted verse, Jace will not acknowledge or consider the idea of Harwin Strong being his father, especially not with people he does not trust to discuss such a delicate topic with (his mother, Baela, Sara, perhaps Daemon, and others in context). The book has this heavily hinted at as propaganda and speculation, and Jace does not allow himself to consider the idea plausible. He is raised (until Laenor's death) by Laenor and Rhaenyra, and is deeply affected by Laenor's death, far more than Harwin's (though he does know Harwin as a older influential figure, and is also affected by his death). Does he acknowledge the possibility, in private or with very trusted individuals (namely his mother and brothers)? perhaps - but not often.
Jace's High Valyrian is word perfect. He spent his entire childhood being raised to the throne, and he was raised on the language of his forebears, as well as their histories. He does, sometimes, struggle with translating ancient books with the language as the dialects are different, but he can speak and understand it perfectly.
Unless plotted otherwise, Jace is betrothed to Baela and has been since he was 4 years old. Any thread where he is either betrothed to another or marries another (with the exception of my verse with Cali's Sara, where he does break the betrothal while in the North to marry Sara), he is not breaking his betrothal with Baela because it does not exist in those cases.
On this blog, typically, we hold that the rumors of Jace being a bastard are just that - RUMORS. I know 99% of the fandom is in disagreement because of the show, but we're book based and we do what we want. His looks come from the other dominant genes in the family, particularly the Baratheon side. Obviously, this is partner-dependent as well, but the rumors were a way to discredit Rhaenyra and her children's claims behind her, thus weakening her position further.
Vermax (both here and where I write them on my multi) is gender-fluid. It's not super relevant to anything, really, other than to how I will refer to them.
Please remember that MY Jacaerys is 18+ in almost all interactions. There will be ships explored, explicit content posted at times, nsfw memes, etc.

Post Gullet / Survival AUs
Survival AUs.
The price of survival sometimes is failure Vermax is injured, and Jace is well aware of it - the battle is won, so escaping with their lives in the priority. There are still enemies alive, though they are being overrun by the other dragons that have arrived. It takes a lot of coaxing and ordering, but they do escape, a spear still piercing in Vermax's eye, while, on their escape, Jace is struck by a bolt, his leg pierced through, just under his knee, into the side of his dragon. It keeps him seated long enough to get them to Dragonstone. Someone will have to approach Vermax, reach for the bolt in his leg and yank it out. He does survive, as does Vermax, though the dragon is blinded in one eye, and Jace spends the rest of his life with a limp and in a great deal of pain. It is not his last battle - after he heals, he does return to fight.
Jace's injuries in the battle of the Gullet: an arrow through the shoulder, another grazed his side - superficial wounds, though the shoulder does tweak now and again after it heals. A spear through the leg as they depart the battle, Vermax's own injuries preventing them from continuing the battle (as the dragon has received a spear through the eye - it is a miracle he flies them both back to Dragonstone alive, rather than crashing into the water), that severs several muscles and splinters the bone. While it does heal, though it takes several months, he does have frequent pains with it. He does rejoin the war, once he and Vermax have healed (though he does attempt, several times, to rejoin long before he is ready).
What did it Cost? When he jumps from Vermax, as the dragon crashes into the water, and clings to some driftwood, he is shot by a crossbow, a second, a third, before he manages to float close enough to a ship, a rope hanging low, and he can't hear that he is being told to grab ahold, can't tell whether it is an enemy ship or not, just knows he is running out of options. Someone is pulling the rope, and it's taking everything in him to hold onto the rope, particularly as a fourth arrow, a fifth, strikes him. (Typically, it would be Corlys that retrieves him from the water, but this can be up to whoever I'm writing with). His injuries remain the same as the previous verse.
In the hands of the Enemy Greens Captive: It's at the Gullet when it happens - Vermax is shot down, and he has two choices - dive into the water, or drown atop his dragon. Were it simply him, he might choose the latter: abandoning Vermax to the waves, though he knows his life is lost, is absolutely soul crushing, but he still has a little brother, somewhere amongst the chaos of the battle, who he hopes is alive. Waterlogged, he clings to driftwood, before nearing a ship (he has never been more grateful to have been raised as a Velaryon: his blood might say otherwise, but able to tread these rough waters is all that truly saves his life, particularly as the first arrow strikes his shoulder). It isn't until he manages to climb up the wayward rope hanging off of the ship that he realizes he's ended up on an enemy ship - but it is too late now. He does still have a sword, and he does kill four of their men before they are able to subdue him. Were it not the ship that held Tyland Lannister, who recognized him as Rhaenyra's heir, though he had only passed the man at court a handful of times that he could recall, his life might have been forfeit. It is after that that he is taken to King's Landing, his wounds tended to, as a dead prisoner was far less useful than a live one, though he is shortly imprisoned after that.
1.) He is in King's Landing when Rhaenrya takes the city, and is found in the Black Cells by someone (Rhaenyra, Corlys, Daemon, etc. - thread dependent).
2.) Angry at the disappearance of Aegon and thinking that Rhaenyra is no threat, Aemond departs for Harrenhal, but he does not trust a valuable prisoner left in King's Landing without his being able to ensure that he does not escape, and he forces Jace with him to Harrenhal.
3.) When Aegon is taken from the city, it is deemed intelligent to remove Jace as well, and he is sent to Essos, hidden away.
Temporary Exile is preferred to death wouldn't one say? When he returns to Dragonstone, injured and failed, after openly defying his mother's orders to stay away, he is sent to the North to heal, to stay with in Winterfell with Cregan Stark once more, welcomed as a Prince of the realm. He hates this idea, is vehemently against it, but he cannot openly defy his mother again, and he does go, once he's well enough to ride a horse (before, really, as he is still too injured to be doing even this), arriving in the North a few weeks after the battle. More TBA
In a sense you were lost too While holding onto the rope, being pierced by arrows and just hoping to survive, a ship crashes, and a piece of wood flies through the air, striking his head. The wherewithal before to tie the rope around his wrist tightly, a knot learned in his childhood, is all that keeps him from plunging back into the waves as he loses consciousness, pulled up onto the ship, not knowing that it is one that is an ally ship, his grandsire's, but he is out. He does not wake up again until he is back on Dragonstone, arrows removed from his body, head pounding, and memory gone. It is as though he is a blank slate. It does not last long - he is clearly often reminded of his past, which brings it back, and really, the memory loss only delays the guilt in his failure.
Whatever it takes to stay together Lys Captive AU - He is captured, along with Viserys, and is taken to Lys as a hostage alongside his youngest brother. More TBA
The cost of victory When Jace and Vermax land back on Dragonstone, arrows and bolts in their bodies, it is not in failure - Viserys is tied to the saddle, tightly, held even more so by his brother, alive and uninjured, despite the injuries that are scattered across his brother. More TBA
To the Lord of Light to save the boy The waves crash over one another, carrying a body to shore, the shores of Pentos - so far off from the battle. When happened upon by a Red Priestess, she does what she knows to do - she prays to R'Hllor to save the boy, which it does, though, other than the scars, the torn clothes, he has no other markers of his name, his heritage, his home. More TBA
What would you do to survive When he is captured by the Triarchy alongside Viserys, there is little time for the brother's reunion. Both might be Targaryen blood, and sons of Rhaenyra, but they fetch a heftier price sold separately, particularly since he is nearly on the verge of death, injuries hastily treated to merely keep the blood within, hardly given much thought until he is separated from his brother, though both do fight against it. He finds himself waking up elsewhere, head aching - for they must have knocked him unconscious - though his injuries have been re-dressed. The smell of herbs, poultices applies to stitched wounds, emanates. Though where he is will prove to be a greater nightmare once he is will enough to be of service. There are ways to bounce off of this AU - either following a canonical timeline where Viserys arrives back to KL when Aegon III is King and tells his brother of Jace's survival, though unaware of his whereabouts, or an AU where Rhaenyra wins the war and reigns, and discovers either or both of the boys have survived.

first of his name.
King of the Seven Kingdoms Verses.
1.) Jace has survived the battle in the Gullet, and is recovering in Dragonstone, when Rhaenyra is killed. It is not long after that that Aegon II is poisoned, and the line falls to either Jace or his brother. While Jace is the older, and has long been seen as a worthy heir, he does take the throne, though it is with a heavy heart. (He does so with his wife/Queen Consort Sara Snow, wife/Queen Constort Baela, or unmarried at the time).
2.) Rhaenyra wins the war against the Greens, Aemond and Aegon are deceased, and she rules the Seven Kingdoms until her death, upon which Jace, as the eldest and natural heir, takes over.

crossover verses.
When Destiny Calls, the Chosen have no choice (Star Wars Prequels/Clone Wars era AU) When Jacaerys is young, a dragon hatches to him. It is the first to hatch in a cradle in several centuries, on Valyria, where many are strong with the Force, but untrained. They would rather stay with their dragons, too large to leave their planet, than go to the Jedi Temple to learn. All dragonriders have Jedi instincts, but most are untrained in the ways of the Force because it would mean leaving their dragons behind, and the years have been kind to the Targaryens, and their bloodlines - they have learned to tame the beasts without a larger understanding of the Force.
But when eggs begin to hatch in cradles once more, and the children become interested in learning more, it is both an opportunity for those of Valyria AND the Jedi Order to learn more - the Valyrians about the Force, once their children are trained and return (little do they know about how attachments are, essentially, forbidden once one joins the Jedi Order), and the Jedi Order about the dragonbonds, the abilities of the dragons, and if other Jedi would be able to master them, or if it is simply a peculiarity of the Valyrians.
Jacaerys (more affectionately known as Jace) goes to the Jedi Order when he is 4, the small dragon Vermax traveling with him. It is conditional - not only must he do all he can to learn the ways of the Force, but he must also be able to control the Dragon, or he will be returned back. Vermax is all of Jace's pent up rage and grief in a small beast, who only answers to Jace
The language that he speaks to the Dragon (High Valyrian - which he has been taught even before the Common Tongue) is not as easily taught, though some of the Jedi Masters do pick it up rather quickly (he does enjoy being a youngling teaching Jedi Masters something they do not know - it gives him a sense of purpose). Not that it gives them any influence over his own Dragon, just that Vermax can understand them. He is a padawan under the training of Pong Krell though this can be changed which is how he learns how he is being used, though the master does keep most of what he knows to himself. When Jace hears about his betrayal of the Jedi during the Clone Wars, it does aid to his decision to leave the Order.
When Jace is old enough, he takes the trials, and excels. While he is aware that they are observing both his ability with the Force and how that connects to Vermax, he is not aware of what they have concluded. And there is little time to ask. Soon after his trials are completed, the Clone Wars begin, and he is sent to join in that fray. Vermax, though larger, is still small enough to fit on several ships, though it will not be long before the beast is too large for space travel - until larger ships are provided.
By the time Order 66 is enacted, Jacaerys has left the Jedi Order, disillusioned by how much he has been used for their own advantages.
He carries both a shoto (within which is a kyber crystal of a krayt dragon pearl and is blue), and a traditional lightsaber (within which is a Sorian crystal and is green).
MORE TBA. Conditionally, other Targaryens could also join who have cradle eggs, or younger dragons that are small even if they are not cradle eggs - this is just my idea. I'd love to interact with both canon characters from F&B/HOTD/ASOIAF and ALSO Star Wars characters if anyone wants to plot with this. I also have the idea of the Strong family being Force Users, so that there is a double impact for Jace & his siblings, but that's still in the works. The stars are easy to seek and so difficult to reach (Star Wars AU) The Planet of Valyria was far out on the outer rim, and rarely visited, even by those seeking asylum. They were not exactly welcoming to outsiders, the family that reigned, having conquered the planet after discovering dragon eggs within its caves several hundred years before. The dragon eggs were safeguarded by dragon keepers, who were not able to ride the dragons, but able to keep them contained. The Targaryens were able to do both - their native tongue being understood by the dragons on command, and bonding with Targaryens as they so chose. Dragons were still wild beasts - they were not tamed, but they would bond with Targaryens on their own whims.
Dragon eggs were given in the cradle, hopeful of hatching. Many did, though several also did not. Older dragons, whose riders had died, were often claimed by the ones who were unable to hatch an egg, or those whose dragons had died themselves. Jacaerys, the Prince, and heir to what was dubbed the Iron Throne - a throne forged from the swords of the enemies of the Conqueror - under the current rule of his mother, Queen Rhaenyra. Only a few years prior, a ship had landed on the planet, seeking aid, and while they did not have the technology to do much, the pilot had expressed his gratitude to their safekeeping. He was no threat, and when he was able to make his repairs and depart, he promised to return, a way to the stars for them. He and Jace, as the Prince was affectionately known, had built a friendship.
Dragons could not fly through space themselves, but on a ship large enough, perhaps.
Any interactions in this verse will occur either on Valyria, or with Jace having acquired a ship from the wayward unnamed traveler large enough to hold Vermax, who is still on the smaller side.If there is hope it is hidden by the dark (Star Wars AU 2) MORE TBALife Finds a Way (Jurassic Park/World AU) Works with Carnivores alongside his brother, Luke loreforged who works in the nursery, MORE TBAWould you lie with me and just forget the world (Grey's Anatomy AU) Dr. Jacaerys Targaryen is a Pediatric Surgery Resident (3rd year at the start) at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Much like other modern verses, Vermax is a large snake that he cares for. More TBA.We could be heroes (Marvel AU) It's a happenstance - they are an isolated place, in regards to those beyond the stars. Until one day, something strange happens, and a man falls from a hole in the sky, a gold glow around it. It is luck, for the man at least, who does not seem to be aware at all, that Jacaerys is there, already in the sky, flying on Vermax, the green and red dragon catching the man before he plummets too close to the ground. They land, smoothly as Vermax sets the stranger down and settles a few feet away, Jacaerys descending off his back to discover who they've found, the man unconscious, though seemingly uninjured. He rouses swiftly, clearly confused, but at least he speaks the common tongue.
After speaking with him for a moment, deeming him mostly harmless (what fear is there truly, when you have a dragon standing at your shoulder?), before taking him to his home, to get him food and drink, and truly question him. Once he discovers where he truly comes from, Jace is curious, and wants to travel with him, though the man, who calls himself a sorceror, is reluctant, particularly as the Prince, the heir to this land called Westeros, refuses to leave without his Dragon. It takes convincing, but he does, eventually, go with the sorceror to a place on what is called Earth, a sanctum, his dragon following behind him. More TBAMankind has always feared what it doesn't understand (Mutant AU) Though few would see the dragon scales that adorn his back, his abilities lie less in those, despite the intrigue, and more in his ability to set blazes, near or far off, just by thought. More TBADenn die Todten reiten Schnell (Catch-All Vampire Verses AU) Targaryens as vampires, for Fire & Blood applies to their dragons and themselves. Becoming a vampire in this strain is more of a ceremony and tradition, that happens when/if the Targaryen chooses it - it does involve the blood of their bonded dragon (so they must have a dragon), and if that dragon dies before they do, they will get weaker, but can bond to a new dragon, and re-enact the ceremony to regain some of their lost strength (though they will not be nearly as strong as the start). Fits into pretty much any canon or vampire verseThere are much worse games to play (Hunger Games AU) Jacaerys Velaryon and his family are from District Four. When he is 17, he is reaped for the 68th Games, given a score of 8 and 8-1 odds of winning, and the Games that are played on Sky Islands. During the bloodbath, he killed both tributes from 3, and managed to figure out how to jump from island to island with relative ease. Once his island crumpled with only him on it, the careers all managed to kill one another or die elsewhere. It was him and a boy from 8 left, who he killed to be crowned the victor. The following year, his little brother Luke was reaped, and kill, and only two years after, his next brother Joffrey. He almost suspected, by the 64th Games, that it would be Aegon called next, but it was Viserys, only 12. A Song of Ice and Fire AUs
And the dead shall rise When Daenaerys Targaryen arrives on Dragonstone, she inexplicably has done something none thought possible - though when has she not been a surprise? When a boy, over a century long dead, and his dragon crawl in from the sea, gravely wounded, but not bleeding, there seems no other option but to pledge to her cause - he would have wanted to serve his mother's descendant in any case.
Notes Not our song to sing And alternate to the above AU, where Jace's resurrection happens simultaneously with Daenery's walking into the pyre and bringing back the Dragons. This has him walking up onto the shores of Dragonstone alongside Vermax while it is under the command of Stannis, alongside Melisandre. More TBA

A Boy amongst the Rivers
AU - Raised in Harrenhal, a bastard boy It is uncharacteristic of Viserys to make such an unusual, and cruel, decision. The boy might be a bastard, but Jace (as nicknamed by his mother, who had not be able to choose his name) is still his grandson. As it is an affront to the Velaryons, and to the succession, there is a decision to be made. Either to ignore the obvious insult, and hope the Velaryons would continue to do the same, or to make conversation in secret, with his Hand (who, by the rumors that were obvious truth, was also the grandsire of the newly born 'Prince'), with Corlys, who is the one whose house would be forced to accept a future Lord of the Tides in the next child, whether he was truly Velaryon or not, or name the child bastard in truth, and no others. He could not even include his daughter in these proceedings, fresh from childbirth, and he can already hear her thoughts on the matter. Luck has it that few have seen the babe - Rhaenyra's ladies, those others aforementioned, and Alicent, who had been the first to point out the discrepancy aloud. There was a choice to be made. The choice to send the boy away, send his father away with him, send Harwin back to Harrenhal, since he was meant to be the Lord of the castle in truth, with his father serving as Hand, and sending the boy away to exile would have been too much. Rhaenyra would have left with him, or taken him somewhere herself, and the babe was only just three days old - she was not able to leave and take him herself so quickly. She might die, then he would certainly do so. In this case? It was best for all involved to remove the child quickly, erase his existence, but let him live. He is innocent - but he cannot wear the name Velaryon. That much is obvious.Raised in Harrenhal, knowing his father, but not his mother, not knowing anything of her, no matter how often he asked. Jace Rivers, a boy without a true last name, spends much of his time in the shadows of Harrenhal. More TBA

AU - Fits within HOTD canon. Would be considered a Green AU It was not the first time he had attempted to sneak aboard his father's ship, determined to join him on his venture, wherever he may go. It was, however, the first time he had done so successfully. Whatever had changed in the air this day, that had made it easier for the boy and his dragon to sneak aboard, tucked under a cloak and trying to appear as invisible as possible, to hide amongst the cargo, the boy of five would never know. He had done it though, and was almost proud, and once they had been on the sea for a while, he was going to reveal himself to his father, a capable man of the tides, just as he was to be a capable dragonrider. There was nothing more that young Jacaerys Velaryon wanted than to make his father proud of him.
It was not long on the sea, or as long as he could bear after running out of the meager food he had sneaked for himself and Vermax, before the environment changed. The temperment aboard the ship was different, though he could not know why, underneath the boards, only knowing that it felt different. Little did the child know, they had been beset by pirates, and his father had been slain.
He had been found out, the pirates apparently determined to search every nook and cranny of the ship, finding the small child, his dragon perched on his shoulder, almost too big to sit upon his future rider thus. The man had attempted to grab at him, and in a moment of fear, it was the first time Jacaerys had said the command: "Dracarys." Though Vermax was small, he had managed to set a fire upon the man, burning his clothes, causing him to flee back to extinguish the flames. He had been furious, but nearby, his Captain was intrigued. Even pirates knew that dragons did not answer to all, only those that they were bonded too. At least, most of them, clearly not the one who would find burns amongst his scars in the future.
The captain convinced him to follow, the young Prince unaware of his father's death, more concerned about the threats around him - the Captain had descended with several men, and Vermax was too small to light them ablaze and keep his rider safe. It was tactical, especially as he wanted to keep Vermax safe, the dragon protectively hissing on his shoulders, curled around him.
There is a time where he intractable, and if it were not for the presence of his dragon, he might have been killed, but once he realizes that no one is coming for him, he's been abandoned, it seems more practical to adapt and survive. A despondent tendency develops in him - what child, who knows his mother has a dragon, would not feel abandoned when he realizes how much time has passed, and no one has come looking for him? It created a despondancy in him until he found a place - his family had built a legacy off of Fire and Blood, and he would continue that with the people who were now keeping him and Vermax, in food and board.
It was a place he would have to earn his keep, and he learned quickly. Vermax was able to grow more swiftly, the freedom of the skies versus being in the Dragonpit of King's Landing or the Dragonmont of Dragon's Stone, and Jacaerys had taken him to flight within a year of his 'death'. He did not care for or have a sense of loyalty to the men who he was with, and once he had learned enough from the men who he was with, and Vermax had grown large enough, the two of them with a bond strengthened through the years, he had taken the ship. It had taken a decade, a now man of six and ten, who had subjucated the crew, and seized control, at least, of this ship.
In the next two, he would gain a fleet, thousands of men who were loyal to his name, though he had dropped a surname several years before and only went by Jacaerys, loyal to his strength, skilled with a sword through years of injuries and practice, and loyal to the dragon that soared above.
When the Dance of the Dragons begins in Westeros, he is aware of it, but not interested, until he becomes involved, discovered.
Notes: At this point, his relevance to the Dance is dependent upon characters in threads, several of which I would like to explore. He is not loyal to either side - he hardly remembers his Uncles and Aunt, having been so young when he disappeared, and even his memory of his brothers and parents are vague. Whether or not Luke is dead is verse dependent. The only real affects to canon are that he would have left before the incident on Driftmark where Aemond loses his eye, and thus would be unaware of that or of Aemond claiming Vhagar, and whether or not Luke dies when the dance starts. I think that most canon events would happen the same, other than Laenor's death happening a little earlier. Otherwise, the rest of the canon events would happen. Vermax would be much larger than he is in canon, as he has been free to fly the skies and not restricted within the Dragonpit, and is likely as big as Syrax by the time Jacaerys reunites with anyone.
